Beach Bums

This gorgeous, scrumptious weather has (amazingly) stuck with us and rolled right through this week! I, personally, cannot get enough of the sun and the blue skies and the sparkly sea and the flip flops and shorts and everything that makes a sunny summers day. Where I live is so beautiful in the summer - the sun literally highlights the beautiful beaches and little villages. After a big holiday haul on Wednesday (which I will be sharing with you - I bought the majority of Primark, standard) I kept it super simple and super lovely yesterday and met my friend Jess for a day on the beach. I decided to blog about this because, besides it being something I can read back on and remember, it was also a really nice day and I feel like I should share it with you guys. So, let's start at 12.30pm - the time that Jess left her little Welsh town and trundled (via car) over to my side of the area, which took her over an hour. She picked me up, and the first thing we did (of course) was hit the beach. Let me tell you, after weeks of being trapped inside crouched over revision books and exam papers, it is really rather nice to sit on the beach with a friend and talk about nothing. Jess is the kind of person that I want to refer to as my 'soul sister', because she just gets it. You know when you meet someone and you automatically click and feel like yeah, this person isn't just in the same library as me, they're on the same shelf, in the same book, in the same line. Maybe even in the same word. Jess gets accidentally falling for fiction characters, she gets secretly enjoying english literature books that the rest of the class loathe, she gets that sometimes sitting by the sea is more fun than getting wrecked in a pub with your friends. Generally, she's a good egg who I feel is cut from the same cloth as me and who is a lovely, real person (I hope she's not blushing too much!). So we sat, yesterday, in the sun and talked about what seems like anything and everything. Jess bought a little wrap and I bought some pasta for lunch, everything was fine and dandy. Until someone thought hey, today has been going rather smoothly for Jess and Amy. Let's spice things up a little. And with that a giant seagull flew down and whipped Jess' sandwich right from her hand.

I've lived here for the whole of my life, I've walked through this little town so many times I can't even count and I thought I knew every little alley, corner and section of where I live. Turns out that wasn't quite the case. Jess and I discovered this adorable little bookshop (do not ask me how I had not noticed this hidden treasure before), which is literally crammed full of books. There is no order or organisation, there are just books on books on books. And we loved it. I have always loved to read - from the moment I was able to understand and actually read books, I couldn't put them down. Honestly, whats better than sitting and diving into a world that's completely different to yours? On that note, I wouldn't mind some new book suggestions. Anyway, so me and Jess were in book heaven and were squeezing down the tiny aisle and everything was groovy and lah-de-dah and then it happened. Jess, naturally, wanted to look at one of the books, so she pulled out a book (it felt and looked a bit like a book version of Jenga) and at least six stacks collapsed all over us. As you can see from the pictures, this was a lot of books. After hysterically laughing and wishing a massive hole would swallow us up right there and then, the book owner of the shop politely said it was ok (it must have happened before) and left us to tidy up the mass of books. We felt like we had destroyed someone's beautiful, quirky little bookshop (don't worry, we put it all back!) but somehow I just felt like I was on some kind of cringey movie and could not, for the life of me, stop laughing. What a weird, wonderful and lovely day.
Jessie has just started up her own blog, which I want you all to go and visit and be supportive and tell her how lovely her writing is (which it really is). Visit her at The Many Thoughts Of Jessie

  1. What an idyllic way to spend a day - on a sunny beach. And to spend it with your best girlfriend. I have a soul mate too and I know exactly what you mean about finding someone you 'click' with - on just about everything. That's a very special relationship. :)
