Can't Sleep? Read This

If you have had/do have trouble sleeping, then you will know that it is pretty much the most annoying thing in the world. Particularly if you have something important the next day - work, an interview, a long journey... Here are a few things that I think most help when trying to get to sleep.

1. Read read read
Reading before bed always makes me super sleepy. Not only does it reduce cortisol levels and improves cognitive function, reading before bed helps your mind to separate your daily stresses from sleep time. Reading can also make you fall asleep faster!

2. Turn off your phone
Looking at your phone screen in bed can seriously disrupt your sleep patterns - leaving you unable to sleep for an extra hour an night! Wavelengths from the light emitted from our phone screens can disrupt the production of the chemical our body needs to fall asleep.

3. Cool down your room
In order to fall asleep and stay in a nice deep sleep, your body needs to cool down. Opening the windows or investing in a fan is a good idea, especially for winter. Being under warm covers in a cooler room is also a lovely feeling!

4. Meditate in bed
Close your eyes while laying on your back and focus on relaxing and loosening every muscle in your body, allowing yourself to feel your body sinking into the bed. Avoid resisting or judging any thoughts that come to mind, and try to think of a quiet place, some clouds or anything you find peaceful.

  1. Great tips and I do the reading thing because it does tire me out quick at night, having a cool room and some fresh sheets are essential for me too (although not every night can be a fresh sheet night lol) x
