5 Reasons You Need To Watch The Sunset

I absolutely love a good sunset. There's no nicer way to end a day than watching it draw to a close in the mist of beautiful oranges, pinks and yellows in a sky of pretty floaty clouds. But what if I told you that sunsets can also improve your mental health and help towards making you happier? Here's a few reasons why you need to start making time for the sunset...

[These sunset pictures were taken by myself in Brighton!]

1. Watching and being in the presence of something naturally beautiful, such as a sunset, can make us feel a lot more connected and in touch with our emotions, ourselves, and the world around us. Just taking a moment out of your day to appreciate something natural and not manmade or influenced by man will remind you of the special world that we live in, and it's natural beauty.

2. Watching a sunset will make you put your phone down. Once you've watched a few sunsets and taken a few pictures, the novelty of capturing it on a screen will wear off and you won't need to be accompanied by your phone to watch it. Putting down your phone means you'll be disconnected from social media and the rush and buzz surrounding it, giving you and your mind a break.

3. Watching a sunset can be inspiring - there's a reason they appear timelessly in books, poetry and films. Sunsets have a somewhat spiritual and empowering feel surrounding them, often associated with the birth of new ideas and motivation, along with healing and positivity. If you want to be super inspired, take a sketchpad and draw what you see or try out some meditation while admiring the sunset.

4. Sitting and watching a sunset can slow down your day and ultimately help you to gain control of your time and thoughts. It's so easy to get through a whole day without even stopping to appreciate or admire anything - we're constantly rushing and looking ahead without really noticing what's going on around us! Taking some time out each day to think and reflect will improve your wellbeing.

5. Watching a beautiful sunset forces us to be outside and amongst nature. Even if you have somewhere to be straight afterwards, or have come straight from the office, taking a little bit of time to just sit outside in fresh air and appreciate a sunset will change your day.

  6. What a lovely post. So non-commercial, non-product based. Just real stuff from the heart and soul. Thank you so much for sharing your words and photographs. There is nothing like watching a beautiful sunset (or sunrise), just walking barefoot in the grass or sand, letting all the negative ions just enter your body, and do their work relaxing your body and calming your spirit.

  10. Just because it's amazing and it put things in perspective. I mean, when I feel anxious or stressed about work or anything else, observing nature is a good way for me to just realise that it all does't matter.
