Jamie's Italian, Bath

Get ready for some serious food envy! Lewis and I were invited to try out the 'Evening Favourites' menu at Jamie's Italian in Bath a couple of weeks ago. Although I only live in Bristol, I don't often venture over to Bath so it was lovely to go and spend a day there, completed with a lovely meal to finish our day. After spending a couple of hours walking around the lovely buildings and having a cup of tea outside the Cathedral (definitely recommended), we headed to Jamie's Italian to try out their 'Evening Favourites' menu. The 'Evening Favourites' menu allows you to have three courses for just £18.95 and is available Monday - Thursday from 6pm onwards.

For my starter, I ordered the Truffle Tagliatelle - 'handmade pasta served in a luxurious, silky black truffle butter with aged Parmesan, nutmeg & more shaved black truffle'. The tagliatelle was cooked al dente which was lovely and the portion size was impressive for a starter. Now, I'm not in any means a food critic nor do I really have any real experience in what I'm talking about, but I do think my starter could have had a teeny bit more flavour - you could taste the lovely cheese but that was about it, making it a little bit bland. Lewis's starter, however, was absolutely incredible. I don't even like mushrooms and I had at least half! Lewis ordered the Mushroom Fritti -  'King oyster & Paris brown mushrooms coated in herby breadcrumbs, served with garlic mayo'. Everything about this starter was delicious - the mushrooms were cooked to perfection and had just the right level of crispiness and flavour, which when accompanied with the garlic mayo dip was blissful.

For our main courses, Lewis and I actually ended up ordering the same meal. We try not to do this so that we can share and have two different things but the Famous Prawn Linguine just sounded too damn good: 'Fried garlicky prawns & Scottish langoustine tails with fennel, tomatoes, chilli, saffron, fish broth & lemony rocket'. Mouth watering yet?! The portion was, again, perfect, leaving us satisfied but with enough room to sneak a little dessert in! When ordering prawn-based dishes in the past I have sometimes found that there are not quite enough prawns, however at Jamie's Italian they were far from scarce; there was the perfect amount of prawns which were flavoured perfectly. I was a little worried about the dish containing chilli as I'm not too great with spiciness, however it had just the right amount to give a little kick and not leave me gasping for water. We were very impressed!

For our desserts we ordered the Baked White Chocolate Cheesecake and the Epic Brownie, and decided to share. The cheesecake was absolutely gorgeous - the biscuity base had the perfect amount of crunch and the fresh raspberries added a sweet touch which complimented the velvety white chocolate mascarpone beautifully. The epic brownie itself was also lovely - the warm gooey brownie mixed with the cold salted caramel ice cream did wonders in my mouth, however I wasn't too much of a fan of the popcorn on top. I think the popcorn clashed a little with the rest of the dessert and meant that were a bit too many flavours going on, but overall it was lovely.
The service we received was excellent, and our food arrived quickly and and promptly. I would definitely recommend popping in to Jamie's Italian the next time you're in Bath - especially to catch the Evening Favourites menu!

Have you been to Jamie's Italian before? What's your favourite dish?
