Why I Hate Clutches (+ Great Alternatives)

I hate clutches. There, I said it. They are impractical, stupid and always end up left somewhere. They cannot class as a bag, surely, as they completely defy the whole reason of having a bag: to carry numerous items from point A to point B. What's the point when you can only fit your phone and a pack of chewing gums in there? Scroll down to read the 7 reasons why I hate clutches, and then scroll a little further to see some great alternatives - ones that you won't actually lose every time you leave the house.

7 Reasons Clutches Suck

1. If you take a clutch on a night out, you just awkwardly have to hold it - or, even worse, awkwardly slip it under one arm.

2. And then it just ruins your dance moves...

3. You can't have a cocktail in one hand and a canape in the other when holding a clutch bag.

4. You can never really fit everything you need inside it, anyway. It has just about enough room for a phone, lipstick and (small) purse.

5. There's not enough room to put it on the table - meaning it awkwardly sits like a big envelope at your feet (and it can get dirty).

6. They are incredibly easy to leave in a taxi or at the bar.

7. They are a dressy bag choice and are pretty impractical for daytime use (if you're like me and carry half your belongings round with you).

  2. Yeah I agree I hate them too. I've never really seen the point of them. I much prefer a bag with a shoulder strap but with having a toddler at the moment I tend to just shove all my bits in her bunny rabbit bag x

  3. I totally agree with you, clutches are a ridiculous idea. I love that Adela Eva bag, such a fun colour x

  5. I have to admit I don't do clutches, in fact I hate anything I have to hold in my hands, always has to be a shoulder bag lol.

  6. I can't deal with clutch bags either as I worry I'm going to put it down somewhere. Cross body bags all the way x

  7. I could not agree more - they fit nothing in and are very awkward to hold all night x

  8. I am not a fan of clutches either! I love item number 2 and in fact have a black and gold brocade Pursa, however mine is original vintage from the 30's. I would love to get more of them as they are so clever and surprisingly roomy!

  9. I don't like them if I am honest but they are good for an evening out. I always make sure they have a strap though

  10. I totally understand your points on The Clutch, they can be a little awkward. But I still like them because they are usually do pretty, but I do tend to go for a large version rather than the purse size ones. I'm not keen on tiny bags with thin straps, but saying that, some of your alternatives to the dreaded clutch are rather lovely.

  11. Clutches go out of the window as soon as kids come along. Even when the babies aren't with you, you don't want to be lumbered with having to carry something and tie up your hand. Great alternatives.

  12. I love this! Yes!! Clutches might look pretty but they do suck! I can never fit everything in, I have to hold it awkwardly all night and every time I drop it, it falls open and spills all over!

  13. I like the idea of a clutch bag but you're totally right they are impractical! I prefer a cross-body bag :)

  14. HAHAHA. I don't think a night out would be quite the same without a clutch- I don't think I'd know how to dance when I had full use of my arms again. I love number 6 of the bags you've picked though
